MENOMONIE – The Boyceville High School Science Olympiad team competed at the regional tournament at Menomonie High School on March 1st and finished as the third place team at the challenging regional tournament. Boyceville earned nine regional championships and three regional runner-ups. Boyceville High School medal winners were as follows:
Gold medals were earned by the following:
- Electric Vehicle – juniors Jon Madison and William Engel
- Helicopters – Jon Madison and Engel
- Horticulture – seniors Emily Fetzer and Delaney Olson
- Robot Tour – sophomores Kade Phillips and Brady Rasmussen
- Towers – juniors Zoey Hellendrung and Chelsi Holden
- Wind Power – senior Abigail Bauer and Hellendrung
- Helicopters – sophomores Devon Lee and Lucy Wheeldon (JV)
- Towers – Lee and Wheeldon (JV)
- Horticulture – sophomores Ava Dormanen and Emily Jackson (JV)
Silver medals were earned by the following:
- Experimental Design – Olson, Hellendrung, and Holden
- Geocaching – juniors Karen Schaff and Loralie West
- Electric Vehicle – Lee and Wheeldon (JV)
Bronze medals were earned by the following:
- Bungee Drop – Hellendrung and Engel
- Forensics – Fetzer and Olson
- Precision Medicine – Schaff and West
- Horticulture – sophomores Sawyer Garbe and Isabelle Konsti (JV)
- Helicopters – senior Aidan Madison and junior Lexi Cole (JV)
Fourth place medals were earned by the following:
- Air Trajectory – Engel and Holden
- Astronomy – Rasmussen and sophomore Eleanor Farrell
- Microbe Mission – Schaff and Farrell
- Optics – Phillips and Schaff
- Towers – sophomore Brooke Fenton and Garbe (JV)
“Our high school students had an outstanding day” said Boyceville head coach Andy Hamm. “Our students have been working really hard and our JV kids knew they had to earn several medals to earn a spot in the state tournament, and they came through with many medals – hopefully it is enough to qualify for the state tournament. We look forward to preparing for the state tournament next month at UW-Stout.”
Boyceville High School’s varsity team has likely qualified for the state tournament, though official state qualifying teams will be announced later this week. The JV team will also learn their fate for the state tournament soon. The middle school team will compete in the rescheduled regional tournament at Boyceville on Saturday March 8th. The state tournament is Friday-Saturday, April 4 – 5 at UW-Stout in Menomonie. Boyceville Science Olympiad is coached by Andy Hamm, Russ Riehbrandt, and Tony Pelikan.
